How can teachers encourage reading?

Being a junior class teacher, reading to your class may be a different experience. There may be some children in the class who only have the opportunity to study at school and not at home. There are a number of reasons why that is the case. You may need to encourage the parents to spend time with their child and help them in reading. To do this you can do the following:

Circulate a newsletter

You can create a fortnightly / monthly newsletter that explains what your class has read in that fortnight or month and why. Then, it says how parents can continue with the chosen title of reading at home. For example, if you are studying science fiction in your classroom for 15 days, you may want to add some suggestions for other science fiction books that parents can read at home.

Start a book club

You can start a book club with your class or throughout the school. Suggest a book for a week or a month, which children have to read at home. Then, check their understanding of the book, and engage
with it, through regular meetings.

Involve children

Let your students know that reading is valuable and fun. The class can get involved in encouraging others to read by creating a poster where each student can write what they have read or mention their favorite book. Doing so will instill in them a love of reading which makes them want to study at home.

Increased concentration and discipline

There is another benefit to creating a common time to introduce regular reading time into your child’s schedule: increasing discipline and concentration. Very young children rarely sit in silence for long periods of time, and it is often difficult for them to concentrate. But as you introduce your children to regular reading, you may begin to notice a change in behavior. Young children may initially mingle and engage in storytelling, but eventually by early reading behavior they will learn to live through the book.

Cultivating a lifelong passion for reading

According to Jim Trail, “Whenever we read to a child, we send a message of ‘happiness’ to his or her mind; you can say that the child will attach the books and print them happily.” The connection between reading and “happiness” is important for success in life. As Personal Development Coach and Speaker Brian Tracy are separate, you develop intelligence and the importance of getting an education is important to getting yourself.

The importance of reading at an early age

is key to lifelong learning, and if you can develop a passion for reading at an early age, be sure to stick to a lifelong commitment. Reading aloud presents books through pleasant, valuable and interesting experiences. Children who value books encourage reading on their own, and will likely continue to do so for the rest of their lives. When it comes to reading

to your children, the benefits of your child’s life far outweigh the development of a close relationship with them, even though it is one of them. Reading aloud to children is really the only important activity to build understanding that is very essential for success in reading that your child will spend the rest of his life with.
